The Court of Appeal has dismissed an application filed by the former Board Chairman of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF), Prof. Christopher Ameyaw Ekumfi, seeking a stay of proceedings in his ongoing trial at the High Court.
Prof. Ameyaw Ekumfi, who is the second accused person in the high-profile Skytrain trial, had approached the appellate court praying for an order to halt High Court proceedings pending the determination of an appeal he filed against the lower court’s decision to reject his “submission of no case”.
Delivering its ruling, the Court of Appeal held that the applicant failed to demonstrate any exceptional circumstances to justify granting the relief sought. Consequently, the court ordered that the case must take its normal legal course.
With both the injunction application by the first accused person and the stay of proceedings application by the second accused now cleared, the path is clear for the trial to resume.
The court has directed the accused persons to file their respective defences by 23 September 2026 to enable the trial to proceed.
