Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Ayawaso East, Baba Ali Yussif, has formally declared his intention to contest the party’s parliamentary primaries ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Speaking on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM’s Weekend Morning Show with host Eddie Ray on Saturday, 5 September 2026, Baba Ali said he is confident of winning the NPP primaries and standing on the party’s ticket to contest the Ayawaso East parliamentary seat in 2028.
He assured his supporters and all well‑wishers that the groundwork is already underway, and called on party members, religious leaders, traditional authorities, youth groups, market women, and other stakeholders to come on board and support his bid.
“This time will be different,” he told the programme, stressing that with more time for engagement and a united party structure, he believes the NPP can reclaim Ayawaso East under his leadership.
Baba Ali’s declaration follows his earlier assessment that the NPP’s repeated change of candidates in Ayawaso East has hurt the party’s chances in the constituency, especially in by‑elections.
