Former Minister and National Democratic Congress (NDC) National Chairmanship hopeful, Hon. Dr. Akwasi Opong-Fosu, has unveiled a comprehensive policy proposal aimed at transforming the party’s grassroots ahead of upcoming national decisions.
Dubbed the “3Vs” framework—Votes, Voice, and Viability—the initiative seeks to bridge the gap between party leadership and branch members who drive the party’s electoral machinery.
Dr. Opong-Fosu introduced the policy during an engagement with branch members, stressing that those who sustain the NDC and mobilise voters must be granted a meaningful role in decision-making alongside fair opportunities to improve their personal economic prospects.
Outlining the core pillars of the proposal, the former minister explained that the “Votes” aspect focuses on equipping and recognising constituency and branch executives whose continuous efforts build the party’s strength.
Under the “Voice” component, the framework establishes a structured pipeline for grassroots proposals to reach regional and national executives, ensuring that local members receive direct feedback on their contributions to party policy.
Addressing the final pillar, “Viability,” Dr. Opong-Fosu emphasised the need to build financially self-sustaining constituency structures that support members between election cycles rather than relying solely on campaign-season outreach.
The proposal outlines plans for constituencies to identify economic opportunities tailored to their local environment. Through these structures, interested members will receive access to vocational training, apprenticeships, mentorship programmes, and market connections.
The initiative will also assist local party members in establishing lawful, member-owned cooperatives and businesses backed by proper financial records and clear ownership models.
To ensure effective execution, the framework recommends the establishment of a dedicated Business Development Directorate at the NDC National Headquarters. The directorate will provide technical guidance, facilitate partnerships with credible organisations, and enforce accountability across local projects.
Dr. Opong-Fosu clarified that the programme will deploy simultaneously across all constituencies without going through a trial or pilot phase, ensuring immediate nationwide implementation.
He concluded that true party renewal relies on restoring trust in grassroots leadership, renewing the economic prospects of the rank and file, and fundamentally resetting how the party empowers its membership beyond general elections.
