Farmer severely injured in brutal attack at Dedeso as local Chief ultimatums herdsmen

October 23, 2026
KNIFE-BLOOD

A farmer identified as John is battling for his life after suffering deep cutlass wounds during a violent confrontation with suspected nomadic herdsmen on his farmland in Dedeso, located in the Kwahu Afram Plains South District.

The harrowing incident unfolded when John arrived at his farm and found cattle actively grazing and destroying his crops. In an attempt to protect his livelihood, he fired a warning shot to disperse the animals. Although the herd dispersed, the reprieve was short-lived, as a group of armed assailants ambushed him shortly afterwards, launching a vicious cutlass attack.

Despite suffering severe bleeding, John managed to put up a fierce defense, inflicting a cutlass injury on one of the aggressors before fleeing towards Dedeso township. The armed men pursued him to the outskirts of the town, abandoning their chase only when alerted local farmers and residents rushed to the victim’s rescue.

The brutal assault has sent shockwaves through the farming community, sparking swift condemnation from traditional leaders and local agricultural workers. The matter has been formally reported to the local police, who have initiated full investigations to track down the perpetrators. Community leaders are demanding an urgent escalation of security patrols across the district to safeguard farmers and avert potential retaliatory violence.

Adding to the heightened tension in the enclave, the traditional ruler of Dedeso, Nana Brempong, has issued a strict ultimatum ordering all nomadic herdsmen to vacate the area by Tuesday, October 27. The Odikro expressed anger over the persistent lawlessness attributed to the herders, accusing them of terrorising residents, committing sexual assaults, and threatening lives across the farming settlements.

In a separate development in the Eastern Region, fear and distress have gripped the people of Kwahu Oworobong in the Kwahu South Municipality following the suspected drowning of an unidentified man at the Oworobong Waterfall.

The victim reportedly plunged under the water while swimming at the popular tourist destination and failed to resurface. The sudden disappearance triggered immediate alarm, prompting local residents and experienced local divers to organize search operations along the waterfall area. Local authorities are yet to issue a formal statement as efforts to recover the missing swimmer continue.
