The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has met with students affected by the alleged sexual abuse incidents at Obuasi Senior High Technical School to assess their well-being and offer official backing.

During the engagement, the Minister listened directly to the concerns of the students and reaffirmed government’s commitment to collaborating with key institutions to guide them through the recovery and investigative process.

Dr Naa Momo Lartey stated that the welfare, safety and personal dignity of the affected students remain the top priority of her outfit. She explained that handling the situation effectively requires sensitivity, strict confidentiality and a well-coordinated approach tailored to individual needs.

She further emphasized the urgent need to shield the students from victimisation, stigma and additional emotional distress, especially while security agencies and authorities complete their ongoing investigations.

To ensure comprehensive care, the Minister revealed that her ministry is working alongside the Ghana Education Service, health professionals, and social welfare officers to deliver sustained medical and psychological aid.

The interaction follows the dispatch of an advance operational team made up of officials from the Department of Social Welfare, the Department of Children, and the Domestic Violence Secretariat. The team was tasked with engaging both the students and their families to evaluate their immediate needs and arrange targeted interventions.

The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection reiterated its determination to enforce child rights, assist victims, and tighten safety protocols across educational institutions to guarantee that schools remain safe learning environments.
