The Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with China while opening up new avenues for collaboration in road infrastructure development across the country.
The Minister outlined the vision during a courtesy call paid by a high-level joint delegation from the Jiangxi Provincial State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission and the China Jiangxi International Economic and Technical Cooperation Company Limited at the Ministry in Accra. The discussions focused on reviewing existing projects and exploring fresh prospects for long-term technical and commercial partnerships.
Addressing the delegation, Mr Agbodza highlighted the central role international partners play in realizing the nation’s ambitious development agenda. He noted that President Mahama has arguably spearheaded the largest scale of infrastructure investment within the road sector through the Big Push Programme, adding that Chinese contractors continue to participate significantly in bringing these transformative works to fruition.
He emphasized that cooperation with global institutions and strategic development partners remains essential for mobilizing the necessary investment, specialized technical expertise, and resources required to address Ghana’s pressing road network priorities. The Minister assured the delegation that the government would take all necessary steps to nurture and sustain a mutually beneficial partnership between the two nations.
The visiting Chinese delegation was led by Xiao Yun, Director-General of the Jiangxi Provincial SASAC, alongside Xu Zhenghua, Vice President of CJIC, both of whom expressed keen interest in expanding their contributions to Ghana’s infrastructure landscape.
