The Ministry of Education (MoE) in collaboration with waste management giant, Zoomlion Ghana Limited (ZGL) on Thursday took the disinfection exercise and fumigation of public and private tertiary institutions in the country to the Western Region.
The nationwide exercise is to pave way for the safe reopening of tertiary institutions on Saturday, January 9, 2021.
The exercise is to also keep the schools’ environs safe and protect the students, teaching and non-teaching staff members in addition to visitors against the virus.
Alhaji Abdulai Abdala, the General Manager of Zoomlion in the Western region said with the help of the government the company has successfully embarked on the exercise.
He said the company identified 11 universities for the exercise, and after that, they will focus on secondary, basic, and junior high schools.
He advised Ghanaians to adhere to the safety protocols to prevent the spread of the virus.
The company he said has distributed nose masks, hand sanitizers and have placed veronica buckets in every point of entrance in the campuses of the institutions disinfected.
He indicated that in addition to the disinfection, the university will also enforce the various safety protocols to protect the students, teaching, and non-teaching staff members.
He commended the government and Zoomlion for their collaboration in fighting the virus.
On his part, the Deputy Registrar of the Takoradi Technical University Kenneth Boateng said so far as the covid-19 pandemic was still with us, the school will adopt all means possible to ensure the safety and protection of students.
The school he disclosed has a Health Centre to help them manage any suspected case of the virus.
He said the school would have smaller classes, so social distancing is adhered to.
The University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), the Community Health Nurses’ Training College, Takoradi Technical University, the Kings Health College, the NURSING AND MIDWIFERY TRAINING COLLEGE, ASANKRANGWA, and the Community Health Nurses’ Training benefitted from the exercise.
The rest were: the Community Health Nurses’ Training College, the SEFWI ASAFO NURSING TRAINING COLLEGE, the Holy Child College of Education, the Bia Lamplighter College of Education, the POTTERS COLLEGE, SCHOOL OF NURSING, and the Richben School of Nursing.
