Asiamah was not a bad minister, Awal must build on his success-Osei Asibey

Renowned sports broadcaster and founder of Ghana Armwrestling Federation, Charles ‘The Barrister’ Osei Asibey has said the former Sports Minister Isaac Asiamah was not removed because he failed in his job.

He told Nhyiraba Kwabena Asirifi on Rainbow Sports that the President felt he wanted a new person to take over.

The experienced broadcaster said he does not think the minister was bad and he thinks Mr. Asiamah did his best.

He said the decision to continue as a minister to be changed lies with the President.

He indicated that it would take an interrogation to discover what led to the President nominating a new person for the ministry.

He asserted that the fact that Mr. Asiamah finished his term as a minister and was not changed in the first term meant he did his best.

“That was the simple reason and if you ask me, I don’t think Asiamah was incompetent. He was not a bad minister. His positives were in excess than his negatives”.

He said there could be two reasons that led to the change in minister including the reason to have a new face take over.

He said the President in his own wisdom feels he would want someone to take over from Asiamah.

He challenged persons who feel he was sacked for a scandal to point to that scandal.

Meanwhile, he has cautioned the new minister Mohammed Yussif to respect all the stakeholders he would be working with.

He said the new minister-designate should have a lot of stakeholder engagements so he would function effectively or he could be out of the ministry.

He said Asiamah held onto his position for four years but if Awal fails to work and respect his stakeholders, he will last long at the ministry.

He advised him to concentrate on the promotion and development of sports and not just football.

He said the new minister-designate will succeed should he concentrate on developing sports in Ghana.

He stressed the need for the new appointee to respect the media, and haste slowly and allow his work to speak for him.

He wants him to develop a strong relationship with all the federations in Ghana and also empower them to succeed.
