A clean-up exercise organised at the June Market by some traders led by one Mr. Daniel was halted following a misunderstanding over the ownership of the portion of land cleared by the traders.
Rainbow Radio’s Fiifi Ankomah who covered the event on Saturday indicated that as the traders were cleaning the area in question, a middle-aged man, Thomas Agbenya brought in some men to halt the exercise.
The situation worsened as the two groups fought with clubs, knives and other offensive weapons.
According to him, some persons sustained injuries.
It took the intervention of the police to bring the situation under control.
Later when contacted, Thomas Agbenya claimed ownership of the land, adding there is ongoing litigation in court, hence it was not prudent for the traders to have organised the clean-up exercise on the disputed land.
He explained that the Ghana Railways gave him the land and he pays for it annually hence Daniel and his group could not claim ownership and organise a clean-up exercise.
Meanwhile, some traders have disclosed to our reporter that the situation has persisted with constant fights and disputes.
They have therefore asked authorities to intervene as their lives were at risk over the matter.
