The Minister-designate for Defence Dominic Nitiwul has rubbished the allegation that he was the one who ordered the troops that invaded the Chamber of Parliament on the eve of January 7, 2021.
According to him, no civilian can order the military around.
Appearing before the vetting committee on February 11, 2021, he said contrary to claims that he and some other civilians ordered the invasion of parliament, he lacked that capacity.
He told the committee that as a civilian, could not order the military and the military cannot be ordered by a civilian.
He said the military would only obey a lawful order from civilians.
The Minister-designate for National Security on Wednesday described the invasion of the military in Parliament as alarming and shocking.
He said he was personally shocked that armed military men entered the Chamber.
Responding to a question by James Agalga, the spokesperson for the Minority on security, the nominee said investigation conducted by his office revealed a Commander who thought things were getting out of control ordered his men into the chamber.
He disclosed a probe is currently ongoing and the said Commander who ordered the troops would be sanctioned after the probe is completed.

The well-armed security detail, with some having facemasks, came to the floor of Parliament at about 3:30am reportedly on the orders of the former Minister of Defence, Mr Dominic Nitiwul.
But the Minister-designate in reacting to the matter said a Commander of GAF was the one who ordered the troops.
Taking his turn, the Defence Minister-designate said he cannot be held responsible for what occurred.
He also affirmed that an investigation is ongoing and the one who is found guilty would be punished.
