Head Coach of Fit Square Boxing Gym and Former Coach of Ghana Amature Boxers, Coach Daniel Lartey Quaye Lartey, has disclosed that Ghana Boxing has depleted due to the selfishness of Coach Ofori Asare, who is currently in charge of the Amature Boxers representing Ghana at the Olympic Games in Tokyo.
He was responding to a question posed to him by Rainbow Sports Kululuman concerning the future of Ghana Boxing.
“I can emphatically say that Ghana Boxing is controlled by one person. This is causing harm to the association. Coach Ofori Asare has decided to manage the affairs of the association,” he said.
Coach Daniel Quaye added that the coaching method of Coach Asare is weak; Ghana needs a foreign coach.
“Ghana Boxing Authority needs to recruit a foreign coach. I have a strong feeling that a foreign Coach can help the Amature Boxers to be successful in their competitions. A Cuban Coach can help Ghana Boxing only if we want to be successful as an Authority,” he added.
He also stated that Coach Ofori Asare was not influenced by anyone, but he(Ofori Asare) rather backbites so the Authority to give him (Ofori Asare) his position.
“Coach Ofori thinks he has been given Doctor of Boxing in Ghana, but he knows that in Ghana I(Daniel Quaye) am best than him(Ofori Asare) so being a doctor isn’t anything. If it comes to coaching in Ghana, I am the best, and he knows,” he stated.
Coach Daniel Quaye concluded that although the boxing authority isn’t fearing well, he thinks the Amature team will make Ghana proud in the ongoing Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020.
