Football Administrator Jonathan Abbey Pobee has underscored the need for competent and experienced football administrators to manage the various clubs in Ghana.
He argued that several system failures were recorded throughout the premier league season, and we need people to manage our games to make them better.
He told Rainbow Sports that there was more room for improvements.
When asked to rate the performance and organization of the league, he said he cannot rate them for good performance because the system failed.
He stressed although some argue that the league was well managed, he thinks otherwise considering the negative stories that affected the league season including, the acts of hooliganism.
According to him, the issue of match-fixing and other system failures affected the entire organization of the league season.
A scandal hit the Ghana Premier League after a defender admitted deliberately scoring two own goals to foil a ‘match-fixing plot’.
Inter Allies centre-back Hashmin Musah reportedly confessed to scoring the two intentional own goals during the clash against Ashanti Gold.
Musah came off the bench and scored two own goals in the final 12 minutes, leaving Inter Allies 7-0 down.
The Ghana Football Association later issued a statement pledging to probe the matter.
The Compliance & Integrity Officer and the GFA Prosecutors will lead the “sporting” investigations by the GFA, and the Association will further lodge a complaint on the match with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana wing of Interpol for the criminal investigation of the game.”
The statement added: ”As provided for in the GFA Statutes and emphasised during all the training the GFA gave to clubs and match officials before the start of the league, one of the core objectives of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) is the commitment to promote the integrity of football in Ghana.
The GFA is committed to investigate all reports of match manipulation(s) and bring the culprits before the Ethics Committee of the Association. The GFA is also committed to report to and assist the Ghana Police Service all such cases of match manipulations which violates the criminal laws of Ghana for prosecution.”
