The Chairman of the MTN FA Cup committee, Mr. Wilson Arthur has disclosed that his focus and target was to organize the MTN FA Cup final not to select clubs for African competition.
Mr. Wilson Arthur was responding to a question posed to him by Rainbow Sports Isaac Wallace concerning the organization and participation of clubs in the Africa club competition.
“My focus was to organize the FA Cup. I wanted to make it well organized for shareholders to enjoy the game. I decided not to involve myself in the legal matters of the Football Association. My main focus was on the organization of the final,” he said.
He added that the organizing bodies of football in Ghana and beyond are governed by laws.
“Ghana Football Association is governed by laws as well as other Football Federations. CAF competition has its laws on what clubs will participate in their CAF club tournaments. The organizers of this tournament requested for clubs willing to participate in next season’s tournament,” he added.
Mr. Wils asserted that although the committee is in charge of the competition but isn’t the one to determine who qualifies for CAF Competitions.
“Our role was to make sure the competition becomes successful. Myself and the committee has no right to determine who qualifies for African, it is the duty of the Football Association,” he asserted.
He concluded that the committee would visit the football association to discuss further issues concerning the tournament.
