Rainbow Sports presenter Ibrahim Karimu aka Hello Kwaku, has opined that Ghana is not prepared to doll out $100,000 monthly to a foreign coach.
Commenting on the sacking of coach CK Akonnor, he noted that the warning signs were on the wall that the coach would be axed, hence it was not surprising.
Before the sacking, Rainbowradioonline.com had published that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) was planning to appoint Frenchman Herve Renard as head coach.
It has also emerged that the coach is demanding a $100,000 per month salary.
Commenting on the issue, Hello Kweku said Ghana was not prepared to pay a foreign coach $100,000 per month.
He said even if Ghana was prepared to pay the money, we do not have the quality of players for the coach to perform any magic with.
He was hoping we could still depend on our local coaches and give them the needed resources and independence to work.
Renard, who is the current coach of Saudi Arabia and a longtime admirer of the Black Stars, led Zambia and Ivory Coast to win the Africa Cup of Nations title.
Renard is the first coach in history to win the Africa Cup of Nations title with two different nations when he led Zambia to glory in 2012 and succeeded again with Côte d’Ivoire three years later.
He was appointed as the coach of Saudi Arabia following his resignation as Morocco national team head coach in August 2019.
