Poor officiating deprives us of good coaches-Coach Asare

November 26, 2021

Former Liberty professional and now the coach for Susubiribi FC, Emmanuel Ofori Asare, in the division one league in Ghana, has opined that bad and poor officiating by some referees are making coaches look inefficient.

The coach was of the view that when referees officiate matches poorly, coaches are the ones who suffer the consequences because they are seen as incompetent.

He was speaking to Rainbow Radio’s Isaac Worlanyo Wallace on Rainbow Sports.

He was responding to the outcome of the Match Review Panel and the suspension of some four referees for poor officiating.

The Match Review Panel of the Ghana Football Association has recommended the suspension of four referees for erroneous decisions in Ghana Premier League matches they officiated.

Referees Mahama Ewuntoma, Eso Doh Morrison, Gabriel Opoku Arhin and Andrew Awurisa have all been handed suspensions by the Review panel.

The Review Panel also commended Referee Emmanuel Azurago Tampuri and Maxwell Hanson for decisions taken in matches their respective matches.

Reacting to the decisions reached, the coach posited that coaches must b punished severely aside from the suspension.

He emphatically based his argument on referee Esso DOE Morrison who officiated matchday three between the continental club masters and the defending champions Accra Hearts of Oak and Aduana Stars saying, the officiating was terrible.

He said the referee decided by awarding a penalty against the home side.

To him, if the referees are punished severely, it would serve as a deterrent to other referees who engage in such poor officiating.
