Former IBF Welterweight Champion Joshua Clottey has reacted to the defeat of Oblitey Commey in his fight over the weekend.
Commey’s opponent, Lopez snatched the IBF Lightweight Championship with a spectacular second-round TKO victory.
Teofimo Lopez came in as the favorite as a challenger during the fight as he stopped Richard Commey in the second round to win the IBF lightweight title at Madison Square Garden.
The 22-year-old Lopez (15-0, 12 KO) absolutely drilled Commey (29-3, 26 KO) with a right hand as both throw their rights at the same time, Lopez’ getting home before Commey’s could connect.
Reacting to the fight, Joshua Clottey said it would be prudent for Commey to move up from his current weight.
He said the boxer is draining himself by trying to reduce his weight to fight in the current category of weight he fought.
This he lamented was not good for the boxer since he would always be defeated by his opponents.
He advised him to consider moving up his weight for his own good.
He was speaking on Rainbow Sports.
In his view, Commey must move to the 140 weight category if he wants to remain strong and fight for glory.
“He is losing too much weight and lacks understanding on why he must move up his weight. He should stop losing too much weight. The boxer keeps losing during his training even before he gets to the main bout,” he added.
