AFCON: European Clubs to release players on January 3

The Confederation of African Football has agreed for [European] clubs to delay the release of all players for AFCON until January 3, 2022.

The directive has been communicated to all AFCON-competing federations.

A statement issued by FIFA on the matter indicates that African federations will treat players returning on a case by case basis, ie, those who don’t have games between January 1-3 will report to AFCON camp immediately.

Those who have games between December 27-January 3, 2022, would be released after their last games for their respective clubs.
