Outspoken Ghanaian coach J.E Sarpong has asked the senior national team not to underrate any of the teams they have been drawn within Group E for the 2023 AFCON qualifiers.
Speaking on Rainbow Sports, he stated that there is no longer a bad team in the AFCON, and Ghana must prepare well for the games.
He told Kwabena Andrews that we do not have to underrate any team in our group. We need to prepare so we are not taken by surprise. Every team in the game has improved, and so, we have to prepare”.
To him, we do not have to take the qualifiers for granted otherwise, we will be disappointed.
In answering the question of which of the groups was the group of death, he said there is currently no group of death.
“The teams have all been fairly distributed, and I don’t think there is a group of death. There is nothing like a group of death. Every country has improved in their games. They have invested a lot in infrastructure and the way they play. On paper, we may have a group of death, but on the field of play, there is no group of death,” he asserted.
The Black Stars of Ghana will have to go past Madagascar, Angola and the Central African Republic in Group E in their quest to qualify for the 2023 AFCON to be played in Cote d’Ivoire.
The draw was conducted in South Africa at the SuperSport studios on Tuesday.
It featured the 48 teams that had made it to the final stage of qualifying for the tournament.
The 2023 AFCON tournament will be played between June 23 and July 23, 2023.
