The Member of Parliament for Builsa has expressed shock at the claims by former Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rof. Emmanuel Martey that he now uses text messages to comment on national issues.
The MP says the comments by the man of God smacks hypocrisy, lack of integrity and insincerity.
The legislator said for a man of God who was so loud under the Mahama led administration and alleged an attempt bribery and yet, failed to report it, to state that he no longer speak but prefers text messages is unbelievable.
He is therefore demanding an answer to who really qualifies to be called a man of God when that individual cannot be principled, candid and unbiased in his criticism of government no matter who was in power.
Dr. Apaak noted that persons who lack integrity and only talk when there is a certain government in power, must not be taken seriously for their analysis and comments.
The former Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Martey, broke his silence on the call on him to speak on national issues as he used to do under former President John Dramani.
The outspoken man of God was heavily criticised over his long silence on national issues.
But speaking at a Public lecture in Koforidua on Tuesday, Prof. Martey said he now uses text messages among other channels to speak to people on matters of national interest.
“Rev. Prof Martey is still speaking but has changed the style. Those I need to communicate with them I communicate. Sometimes through text messages and a lot of things have happened because of my intervention. So I’m still speaking”.
“You know the revelations, practice and procedure of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, the Spirit of our constitution is that the Presbyterian Church of Ghana has only one representative to speak on behalf of the church and that person is the moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana not past moderators but serving moderator. And for me, my understanding of leadership is that especially in the Church’s setting leadership is like a relay race when the baton is given to you [you don’t take it, it’s given to you] , you run as fast as you could and when you get to the next person, you hand over the baton and stop running. If you hand over the baton and you continue running, anyone who does that is mad” he said.
But reacting to these comments, Dr. Apaak expressed shock and wondered where the integrity of the man of God lies.
“What is the definition of A MAN OF GOD? I’ve been asking this question, no reply from even those whom are called Men of God. I’m sure sincerity, honestly and integrity will be attributes of A Man of God!”
In 2016, the legislator took on the man of God for failing to report the alleged bribery claims he made when he held the position as Moderator.
The man of God had alleged that some persons came to his house to bribe him so he will top criticizing the government over corruption issues.
