GFA has breached the High Court’s injunction order- Eleven Wonders

August 5, 2022

The management of the relegated Techiman Eleven Wonders FC (Eleven Wonders) has disclosed that it would be a contempt of court if it is established that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) disregarded a court order for an interlocutory injunction with regard to Ghana Premier League play-offs between Liberty Professionals, Tamale City, and Ebusua Dwarfs for the replacement of demoted Ashantigold SC.

Lawyer for the team, Nana Sekyere Boateng, told Kwabena Gyasi Andrew on Rainbow Sports that the team secured an injunction against the Ghana Football Association (GFA) before the Superior Court of Judicature in the High Court of Justice – Wenchi.

The Techiman-based team urged the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to reinstate Eleven Wonders back into the top flight.

The High Court of Wenchi issued an interlocutory injunction on the impending play-offs involving the aforementioned clubs, according to the letter approved by the Registrar of the High Court of Wenchi.

However, the GFA organised the matches, and the lawyer says the move is in clear violation of the court order.

The lawyer, in his submission, said he was not sure the match played was one of those that the injunction was placed on.

But when his attention was drawn to the fact that the match was one of those they placed an injunction on, he said it is a clear violation of the order.

”We cannot stop the GFA from playing any match. But if the game was part of the playoffs, then it was unfortunate. Nobody is above the law. This is a clear disregard of the court order. I will take a directive from the team and move forward with the next step. We had already served the GFA with the injunction, and so for them to breach the order and be in contempt is disrespectful.”

Eleven Wonders had previously submitted a plea to the Appeals Committee of the GFA to restore them to the GPL.

But this was rejected following the demotion of AshantiGold SC to Division Two League due to suspicions of match rigging.

Wonders, who were relegated from the just-ended GPL claim they are supposed to replace AshGold since the GFA laws say only three teams should be relegated at the end of every season.
