Eight trader groups and importers in Kumasi, Ashanti Region, have threatened to close their shops and halt imports for two weeks.
The irate importers and traders claim they are closing their shops to protest the cedi’s continuous free fall against major trading currencies.
According to them, their businesses have been impacted, and the decision to close their stores will send a signal to the government to address their concerns.
The traders sell clothing and goods.
Several of them expressed regret that the situation had made it impossible for them to import.
Nana Yaw Agyeman, Deputy Secretary of the Kumasi Importers Association, disclosed that they will begin the strike next week.
