Despite the National Labour Commission’s directive to the three teacher unions to end the strike, they have yet to return to the classroom.
Rainbow Radio 87.5FM reporters reported that some teachers and students have left classrooms in public elementary and secondary schools.
Abdul Malik Anokye, a resident of the Ashanti Regional capital of Kumasi, reported that teachers and students were not present in several schools he visited.
Since Friday, November 4, 2022, the three teacher unions have been on strike to pressure the government to rescind the appointment of the new Director-General of the Ghana Education Service.
From the Greater Accra Region, Fiigi Ankomah reported that teaching and learning have stalled in several schools despite the directive from the NLC.
The National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), and the Coalition of Concerned Teachers, Ghana (CCT) are the three unions on strike.
The situation was not different from Tamale, and Adeiso in the Eastern Region.
