Only players who’ve won trophies are legends – Retired Footballer

A member of the 1982 AFCON-winning team for Ghana, Joe Joe MaClain, has asked Ghanaians to stop describing every player as a legend.

In an interview with Rainbow Radio’s Frontline host Kwabena Agyapong, Joe Maclain stated that not every player who plays for the national team is a legend, but rather must be able to win a trophy for future generations to see.

He went on to say that this is the case where Black Stars players have played for many years but have nothing to show for it, yet they call themselves legends.

He also emphasized that being called a legend is a big deal around the world and that they are qualified to be called legends because they brought home a cup or trophy.

When asked if he ever regretted playing football, he replied that it was enjoyable to play for Ghana and that his love for the game drove him to pursue it as a career rather than the monetary aspect.
