Police at Barekese in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District of the Ashanti Region have arrested a landlady, identified as Sister Afia, for allegedly biting off a portion of her tenant’s ear during a bloody fight at Fufuo.
Sister Afia was detained when she and her husband, Kwame Dan, went to the Barekese Police Station to lodge a complaint against the victim, Yaa Achiaa, 40.
The violent altercation on Thursday, September 3, was the culmination of a dispute over their children that began on Monday, August 31.
Tensions reportedly flared when Achiaa cautioned her daughter against playing with the landlady’s children after a previous incident in which her daughter was injured.
The disagreement escalated into a physical fight when Achiaa confronted Afia for interfering while she was disciplining her child.
Eyewitnesses and family members revealed that Afia pounced on the victim during the struggle, bit off a piece of her ear, and allegedly chewed it before residents could pull them apart.
Blessing Osei, the victim’s eldest daughter, stated that the landlady also attacked and threatened her when she tried to intervene. She further alleged that Afia had subjected her mother to persistent verbal abuse prior to the assault, while Achiaa claimed the landlady’s husband actively discouraged neighbours from breaking up the fight.
Following the incident, Achiaa was rushed to the Barekese Hospital before being transferred to the Offinso Government Hospital due to the severity of the injury.
The victim has appealed to the Ghana Police Service and relevant authorities to ensure a thorough investigation and secure justice.
Sister Afia remains in police custody as investigations continue.
