The Minority in Parliament has proposed a further reduction of the Electronic Transfer Levy to 0.5 percent.
The caucus has also asked for a GHS 300 threshold to cushion poorer Ghanaians.
Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu speaking at a retreat for MPs, said his side was open to collaborating with the government as it works to overcome the economic crisis.
“We will subject it [the new E-levy rate] to further critical and thorough discussions as a caucus in order to assist the government to get out of its eminent economic crisis,” he said.
“But without going into the scenarios, as you look at your scenarios, consider another 0.5 percent at a threshold of GHS 300 as compared to what you have admitted of 1 percent at a threshold of zero,” the Minority leader added.
Among the measures aimed at stabilising the economy is a review of the E-Levy Act, which will see the headline rate reduced from 1.5 percent to one percent of transaction value, as well as the elimination of the daily threshold.
