Two people have drowned in the Offin River at Nyinahin- Anwiafutu in the Ashanti region’s Atwima Mponua District.
Derrick Atta, 18, and Kwabena Anane, 17, have been identified as the deceased.
The two and four others allegedly encroached on the Apenkuro forest reserve Anwiafutu, which is managed by the Nkawie District Forest Services Division, for mining purposes.
Rainbowradioonline.com gathered that the illegal miners drowned while engaging in illegal mining activities.
One person has since been arrested, while the remaining three have fled.
The bodies of those who died have been recovered from the river.
Seth Adu, the Assembly member for the area, expressed condolences to the bereaved families and advised the youth to remain calm while the investigation was underway.
