Ten persons have reportedly been arrested in a joint police and military operation in the late hours of Thursday, February 23, after a gun battle ensued between 2 feuding factions at Wenchiki in the Chereponi district following the installation of a new Nagbandi chief.
The suspects have been arrested and are being held at the Chereponi district police station.
According to conflicting reports, two to five people were killed in the exchange of fire, including a 16-year-old girl and security personnel.
Three other people who were hit by bullets and suffered varying degrees of injuries are being treated at the Cherponi district hospital.
Health officials and teachers in Wenchiki are said to have fled the area and are seeking refuge at the CHERPONI district police station.
The Cherponi district security committee has also increased security.
According to reports, some level of calm has been restored in the area as a result of security presence.
