Ghana happy to be part of initiative by LaFrancophonie to give the youth better opportunities – Minister

March 21, 2023
kor

Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister Shirley Ayorkor Botchway believes LaFrancophonie is more poised than ever to take up the challenges of the 21st century through economic cooperation and the development of cultural and creative industries in the quest for a better life for the younger generation.

She said Ghana was happy to be a part of this drive which is in line with the vision of the government of Ghana.

The Minister noted that the various agreements of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Ghana and the OIF have allowed Ghana to enjoy fruitful collaborations with the organization and its member states.

According to her, the linguistic pact agreement signed in 2018 and the teacher mobility programme are notable examples of the engagement between Ghana and OIF.

She was speaking at the celebration of LaFrancophonie and the launch of the week-long celebration.

She said the government had taken the week-long celebration a step higher this year to enhance the visibility of LaFrancophonie in Ghana.

The celebration which began on March 118 and is expected to end on March 25, 2023, will help in promoting the French language and political, educational, economic and cultural cooperation among the 88 member countries of the Organisation internationale of la Francophonie (OIF) [International Organisation of La Francophonie].

Meher Kheir, the Lebanese Ambassador and President of the Francophone Ambassadors Group, praised Ghana for its assistance to Francophone countries.

He stated that President Akufo-Addo has frequently supported them in their efforts to promote education and other initiatives.

He said the President continues to push for reforms that will make Ghana a multicultural destination.

He urged the participants and members to see themselves as agents of solidarity, diversity, democracy and peace to promote a cloud of hope for the next generation.

The Charter of the Francophonie defines the institution; its highest authority, the Summit of the Francophonie; and its cornerstone, the Secretary General of the Francophonie, a position currently held by Louise Mushikiwabo.

The OIF implements multilateral francophone cooperation projects alongside the Assemblée parlementaire de la Francophonie [Parliamentary Assembly of the Francophonie] and four operating agencies: Agence universitaire de la Francophonie [Association of Francophone Universities], TV5MONDE, Association internationale des maires francophones [International Association of Francophone Mayors], and Université Senghor [Senghor University] in Alexandria.
