Ghanaian Hiplife artiste, Michael Elliot Kwabena Okyere Darko popularly known as Obrafour has sued Grammy award-winning Hip hop artiste, Drake.
The rapper sued the foreign artiste over alleged copyright infringement.
He has sued him allegedly sampling his monster hit song “Oye Ohene” ft. Tinny (Remix) in the track “Calling My Name”.
Drake had earlier sought permission to use the work, but his request was turned down.
Obrafour is thus looking for at least $10 million in damages.
The musician through his lawyer filed the case in the Southern District of New York are asking the court to enter into judgment that the “Defendant wilfully infringed Obrafour’s Copyrighted Work in violation of the Copyright Act” among other reliefs.
Meanwhile, founder of Chale Wote Street Arts Festival, Mantse has tweeted at Drake saying he is the original owner of the copyright Obrafour referenced.
In a series of tweets, he said “For the record @iamobrafour filed a law suit to lay claim to my intellectual property without notification. Mike I expect you to tell the truth about this matter or I will.”
“Mike @iamobrafour please tell your coons
I’ve been trying to get you to meet my lawyers since @Drake released that song. You cannot claim compensation on my intellectual property that you also didn’t pay for. We can revert to what I suggested last year and keep it moving.”
“Hi Mike @iamobrafour I’m disappointed at your actions. Would be good to tell the public the truth about this matter or I will be forced to lay out how you’ve never paid a dime for any of my works on your songs over the last 20yrs.”
