The District Court in Tamale fined former National Democratic Congress (NDC) Northern regional communications officer Hardi Pagzaa and one Mumuni Osman GH3,600 for assaulting a Dagbon Radio presenter in Tamale.
The accused persons, who were charged with four counts, pleaded guilty to all of them.
Conspiracy to Commit Assault, Assault, Unlawful Entry, and Threat of Death are among the charges.
The two were apprehended and arraigned in court before his Worship Amadu Issifu.
The Prosecution later dropped the fourth count of Threat of Death.
The accused have shown remorse, according to the defence counsel, and have asked for a non-custodial sentence.
Before issuing his decision, the Judge warned the defendants not to repeat such illegal acts. He also urged political talk show hosts and guests to be cautious in their statements and actions.
The magistrate stated that such acts have a proclivity to spark conflict, citing the Rwanda genocide and its devastating impact on citizens as an example.
The accused was then sentenced to a fine of 300 penalty units, which amounted to $3,600, or 18 months in prison.
