Fifi Folson, a multiple award-winning media personality, says he had always wanted to work in radio, but it was a bizarre set of circumstances that landed him his first radio job at Sunny Fm, where he worked for 13 years.
”I told myself I wanted to do Christian radio,” he said in an interview with Daniel Dadson on Rainbow Entertainment on Rainbow Radio 92.4Fm in the UK. I wanted to work in Christian radio because I wanted to stay faithful to my faith. I had heard stories about how people did radio, but I wanted to be different”.
He told the host that he sent demos to several radio stations in the hopes of getting the chance to live his dream.
However, the stations to which he sent his demos did not even listen to them.
He then sent a demo to Sunny Fm, who thanked him but told him there was no space.
Later, the receptionist called him back and informed him of an audition for a reality show, which he initially turned down until the woman persuaded him to take the risk.
He described the circumstances that led him to radio as bizarre, explaining that during the competition, despite not receiving the required votes as expected, one of the judges pushed and had him selected as one of the winners.
According to him, he later became a fan favourite among listeners, and the rest, as they say, is history.
He described his decade and seven years on the radio as fulfilling because he used the opportunity to lead several people to Christ, and that is enough for him.
Looking back, he says he has no regrets because his dream of doing Christian radio had come true.
”I have always known that it is a ministry that God had called me into, and probably it is because of his grace I have been able to do this for 17 years.”
