The category definition will recognise a track and singles category that recognizes recordings that utilize unique local expressions from across the African continent.

It will also highlight regional melodic, harmonic and rhythmic musical traditions.

The category includes but is not limited to Afrobeat, Afro-Fusion, Afro Pop, Afroneats, Alte, Amapiano, Bongo Flava, Genge, Kizomna, Chimurenga, HighLife, Fuji, Kwassa, Ndombolo, Mapouka, Ghanaian Drill, Afro-House, South African Hip-Hop, and Ethio Jazz genres.

The Grammy Awards, or simply the Grammys, are awards given by the Recording Academy of the United States to recognise “outstanding” achievements in the music industry. Many consider them to be the most prestigious and significant awards in the music industry worldwide.
