The Minority in Parliament has urged the government to thoroughly investigate a leaked audio that implies a plan to rig the 2024 general elections.
In the aforementioned leaked recording, a top police officer is heard stating that the IGP, Dr George Akuffo Dampare, should be removed.
According to the senior official, the IGP would thwart the election rigging attempt.
Speaking to journalists, Parliament’s Ranking Member on the Defence and Interior Committee, James Agalga, said such remarks are treasonous.
He stated that this is a major situation that requires immediate response by the government.
He remarked that it raises issues and that certain people are focused on sabotaging the people’s sovereign will.
According to the legislator, this has the potential to jeopardise national security.
He claimed he had no idea we had NDC or NPP IGPs till he heard the leaked tape.
He also inquires whether the accusations in the recording corroborate the contention that there was a collaboration between the security services and the government in the Techiman election, which resulted in the deaths of individuals.
James Agalga said the leaked tape was an important revelation that must be taken seriously.
He said if “the authenticity of the audio is determined, the senior officer must be charged. Because the actions behind that audio for me, passes for treason. It passes for treason It is an attempt to subvert the will of the Ghanaian people. The revelations in that audio are very serious. So for me, rather than dismiss what is contained in the audio, I will urge the Interior Minister to take steps; and very quickly and get to the bottom of this matter”.
