HE Akufo-Addo, President of Ghana, has met with other West African leaders in Abuja, Nigeria, to discuss the critical political situation in Niger.
The President’s decision to join the other leaders follows a revision in the initial plan agreed upon by ECOWAS.
It was originally planned that ECOWAS would send military troops to restore constitutional order if the presidential guard that deposed the democratically elected president, Mohamed Bazoum, did not reinstate him within a week.
However, recent information suggests that the previous judgement has been reversed.
While speaking at the emergency conference, ECOWAS Chairperson Bola Ahmed Tinubu [Nigeria’s president] emphasised that ECOWAS would first exhaust all measures before proceeding with their plan to deploy soldiers.
