C/R: Asebu Chief Destools Gyasehene Over Insubordination

October 10, 2023
Chief

Okatakyir Dr. Amenfi VII, the Paramount Chief for the Asebu Traditional Area, has imposed immediate sanctions on Gyasehene Nana Kwadwo Benyin XIII, a Gyasehene from Brebia, Abura Asebu, for his disobedience towards the paramountcy.

Charges against Gyasehene suggest he reluctantly declined a series of sermons from the paramountcy due to complaints about his self-definition as Chief of Agidam.

A remote community was allegedly established by him to exploit chiefs without the Paramount Chief’s knowledge, leading to his destoolment on October 6, 2023.

In an interview with Rainbow Radio’s Eric Annan, Okatakyir Amenfi stated that the need has arisen for him to dethrone the Gyasehene, whom he described as stubborn over his level of insubordination and succession shown towards his throne, as none of his divisional chiefs has ever brought up such despicable act showcased by Nana Kwadwo Benyin.

The disfavoured chief has been removed from the Brebia Gyasi stool, and anyone attempting to acquire land at Agidam or Brebia must disassociate themselves from engaging the Gyasehene, as they do so at their own risk.

In response to his announced destoolment by Okatakyir Amenfi VII, Nana Kwadwo Benyin XIII stated that every clan in the Fante kingdom is independent, with the explanation that Agidam, as highlighted by the Paramount Chief, emerged as a stool land for his clan, which was ruled upon by his forefathers.
He accepted to withdraw from the Asebu Traditional Area if he is no longer relevant to the paramountcy, but will soon decide which paramountcy he will have his community pay allegiance to.
