Very Reverend Father Stephen Amoah-Gyasi, Director of Caritas and Socio-economic Development for the Catholic Arch-Diocese of Cape Coast, has advised faith healers and pastors to stop holding individuals with chronic medical issues in their prayer camps.
He stated that they should swiftly refer them to medical facilities for professional medical treatment before the disease spreads, as the excuse of spiritual healing is not only cruel, but also a violation of human rights.
He charged them to “Focus on preaching the word of God and allow medical professionals to also do their work.”
He was speaking at a breast cancer screening exercise organised for Assin Sibinso residents in the Assin South District.
The exercise was organised by the organisation in collaboration and Mercy Women’s Hospital at Mankesim organized a
Rev. Father Gyasi also urged the government to take action against pastors who admit cancer and other chronic disease patients to their camps but refer them to hospitals only when the disease is terminal.
Meanwhile, Ms. Lawrencia Yankson, a Senior Nurse at the Mercy Women’s Hospital in Mankesim, pleaded with the public that breast cancer is not a death sentence, but can be readily cured if diagnosed early.
The beneficiaries, who received a screening, expressed their gratitude to Rev Amoah Gyasi and Mercy Women’s Hospital.
