Alban Sumana Bagbin, Speaker of Parliament, has revealed that his official residence was almost sold to a private developer.
He made the disclosure at this morning’s Speaker’s Breakfast Forum at the Alisa Hotel in Accra.
He claimed that the property was given to a private developer without his knowledge.
The Speaker stated that if the Lands Commission had not discovered the building, the property would have been re-registered to private developers.
“Many of you don’t know that even the residence of the speaker was almost sold to private sector. Actually it was given out, it is when they went to register that land’s commission identified that that is the residence of the speaker. Luckily I was inside so it was safe,” he said.
Meanwhile, The Speaker has stated that the Bretton-Woods Institution has directed Parliament to pass the Affirmative Action bill through a certificate of urgency, stating that Ghana will not comply with the International Monetary Fund’s whims.
The speaker emphasized the bill’s importance and cautioned the IMF against interfering with the legislature’s operations.
