In a remarkable display of community spirit and environmental responsibility, the Ariel Foundation International Ghana spearheaded a significant cleanup operation at the Korle Lagoon Beach in Jamestown, a historic suburb within the Greater Accra region.

This initiative, aligned with Global Youth Service Day (GYSD), brought together a diverse coalition of volunteers, local groups, and ecozoil companies, all united in their commitment to ecological stewardship and societal involvement.

The event, which took place on a day dedicated to mobilizing the youth in acts of service and advocacy, highlighted the collective resolve to safeguard the environment and foster a sense of communal participation.

The cleanup drive saw enthusiastic participation from various sectors, demonstrating a shared dedication to nurturing eco-friendly practices and enhancing public health.

In an interaction with the press, Moses Ekwere, the Country Director and Permanent Representative of AFI to the United Nations-Geneva and Country Director-Ghana, expressed his conviction that such initiatives are pivotal in cultivating sustainable environmental habits and promoting overall well-being.

Ekwere emphasised the crucial role of the youth in the nation’s development, stating, “Youths are instrumental in building our nation, and they are a vital component of the transformation that Africa eagerly anticipates.”

He added, “Our engagement in this cleanup is not merely about beautifying our shores. It’s about instilling values of accountability and ecological awareness in our young people, thereby fostering a cleaner, healthier environment for everyone.”
