The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) says it has not approved new transport fares.
Ghanaians who depend on commercial transport are expressing shock and disapproval over new transport fares.
Some have described the new fares as outrageous.
Speaking on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, National Communication team member of GPRTU, Samuel Amoah said negotiations have not concluded on the approved charges.
He indicated that the situation has come to their attention and efforts are underway to finalise the final negotiations.
He revealed that by Monday, April 30, 2024, the new and approved fares would be released.
Commercial drivers have increased fares between GHC 2 and 5 for intracity transportation.
Samuel Amoah noted that the negotiations were delayed because the Transport Minister was out of jurisdiction.
He called for calm and assured members of the union that the approved percentage for the increment would be announced by Monday.
He said there is a laid-down procedure for an increment, but the unfortunate thing is that the minister has travelled, so we have not been able to finalise our discussions. But the minister is back, and we will be meeting with him on Monday. The delay is not the best, but we will surely reach an agreement by Monday.”
