The Electoral Commission (EC) says it has conducted preliminary investigations into the alleged bribery of two of its temporal staff in the Ejisu by-election which was held today, Tuesday, May 30, 2024.
The electoral body earlier withdrew two of the temporal staff after a video of tem allegedly accepting a bribe circulated on social media and the traditional media.
The two have been identified as Regina Serwaa, Ballot Issuer and George Sasu, Presiding Officer
According to the EC, it’s investigations have revealed that the two officers were stationed at the Fumesua Pentecost Church Polling Station with Polling Station Code F311503 were in the incident occurred.
The EC said the man who handed over a white envelope to the two, walked to their table and
enquired whether they had eaten.
He then placed the envelope on the table and asked them to use the contents of the envelope for their lunch, following which he walked away, the statement which was issued by Mr. Samuel Tetteh, the Deputy Commissioner in Charge of Operations said.
“The Electoral Commission has taken the following actions:
Withdrawn with immediate effect, the services of the two (2) Temporary Election
Officers.
Held preliminary discussions with the Ghana Police Service to kick start the process for criminal investigations into the matter.
