Ghanaian musician Martin King Arthur, popularly known as Kofi Kinaata, has disclosed that nobody has written a song for him since he began his music career.
The musician said he wrote all his songs himself and has not had anyone write a song for him before.
Kofi Kinaati disclosed this in an interview on the Midmorning show on Rainbow Radio 87.5 FM.
Speaking with host Sokoohemaa Kukua, he stated that some individuals have approached him with several songs, but after evaluating them, he discovered the songs did not meet the standards.
The songwriter was, however, quick to add that those who approached him with the songs were not professional writers but loyal fans.
“I wrote all my songs. Nobody has written songs for me before. I have been approached by people with some songs, but these songs do not meet the standards. But let me stress that these songs I refer to were not written by professionals; they were written by some fans who called to tell me they had some songs for me. After evaluating these songs, I realised they did not meet the standards I wanted.”
Responding to the question whether he was prepared to perform songs written by others or consult other writers he said “I have not made that attempt. Unless maybe my fans get tired with what I do and so they would want me to consult other writers”.
When asked if he was willing to write or compose songs for other musicians, he answered in the affirmative.
He went on to say that if you can’t write your own songs, you should be able to perform others’.
“If you can perform or sing, you should be able to write as well. But there is nothing wrong about not being able to write music. When you visit abroad, you notice that musicians have multiple albums, and just a few of the songs are written by the performer.”
