President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has reiterated that he is not a clearing agent, as alleged by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The president was reacting to allegations of corruption against some of his appointees.
Contrary to the allegations levelled against him, Akufo-Addo noted that the NPP government remains committed to upholding due process and the principles of justice in the ongoing fight against corruption.
He added that under no circumstances will he set aside due process and the rules of natural justice, no matter the outcome.
Former President John Dramani Mahama in May this year took a swipe at the president accusing him of having a terrible legacy.
This was in response to President Akufo-Addo’s call for Ghanaians not to vote for Mr. Mahama as the next President, insisting that Mr. Mahama would d story his legacy if elected.
In a social media post, Mr. Mahama stated that he would not continue President Akufo-Addo’s legacy because the President would be leaving behind a negative legacy.
“Of course, I will not protect your ‘legacy’ of corruption, misgovernance, arrogance, ineptitude, bankrupt economy, increased unemployment, and pushing more of our people into the poverty bracket,” Mr Mahama’s post said.
But commissioning the new Law House in Accra on Monday, June 10, 2024 President Akufo-Addo said, “…I am sure we are all aware of the statement by the former president and perennial NDC presidential candidate John Dramani Mahama stigmatizing me as a clearing agent because for him mere allegation without more is enough to merit condemnation of an accused public official. Especially one of my administration.”
“For my part and let me state it again for the record, I will not set aside due process and the rules of natural justice on the altar of the fight against corruption no matter how much opprobrium this position incurs for me.”
