The Tamale High Court has ordered a rerun of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary primary in the Walewale constituency.
The decision by the court follows an injunction filed by the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Hajia Lariba Zuweratu.
The court granted the injunction on Monday, June 24, 2024.
The MP had raised concerns over the integrity and credibility of the polls.
Dr. Tiah Abdul Kabiru Mahama was initially elected as the party’s candidate but was later injuncted.
Dr. Kabiru, a special advisor to the Vice President, garnered 345 votes, beating Hajia Lariba, who polled 338 votes.
However, Hajia Lariba alleged electoral irregularities and misconduct and sought an injunction to stop Dr. Kabiru from declaring himself the winner.
The court, presided over by Justice Richard Kogyapwah gave the ruling on Monday, September 2, 2024.
According to the court, the full judgement will be read on September 12, 2024.
