Founder and General Overseer of the Alabaster Prayer Ministry, Prophet Kofi Oduro, says illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, is thriving because the people engaged in it have support from people in authority.
The man of God asserted that the galamsey issue was an act of irresponsibility especially on the part of our leaders.
On Sunday, September 8, 2024, Prophet Oduro questioned how the illegal miners are able to buy pump action guns if not the support they receive from the illegal miners.
‘’This is an act of irresponsibility. The people doing this nonsense (galamsey) have people in authority empowering them. One pump action gun is a GHC 40,000. So who buys these pump action guns and gives them to these people who are able to face the police and the soldiers? They can face them because they have been empowered by people in authority. They (leaders) have eaten their cake and are still looking for it. Wicked leaders would be judged.’’
He referenced the statement issued by the Ghana Medical Association and other health professionals on the implications of the galamsey, including deformed children and other health-related crises, adding, ‘’And we have a president of this country. And we have a cabinet of this country, and we have a parliament of this country that looks on irresponsibly. At least we have a chef in this country who is trying. Otumfuo Osei Tutu is destooling chiefs engaged in galamsey. That trying should be the leadership of this country’’.
He also took on the church for failing to speak about the galamsey menace, lamenting that it is going to take us several years to deal with the problem.
