The GaDangme UK & Ireland and the Ga Traditional Council are set to host this year’s Homowo Festival on October 26, 2024.
King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, the monarch of the Ga State, will make a landmark appearance at the event, accompanied by his Paramount Chiefs, Queen-mothers, Priests, Priestesses, and other notable figures, affording an opportunity to display the singular beauty of GaDangme culture to the UK and worldwide.
This year’s Homowo celebration holds greater importance, expanding its focus beyond honoring ancestors to tackling hunger caused by poverty, in line with UN Sustainable Development Goal 2 – Zero Hunger.
The event encompasses various activities, including receptions at the House of Commons and Cambridge University, a business forum, and a meeting with the Ahmadiyya Amir.
The event is supported by prominent organisations, including The McDan Group, Lambeth Black Parents Forum, LEMFI Right Card Payment Services, Diaspora Insurance, Top Connect, Jumbo UK, Nii Nmai Family (Q-Advice) of Netherlands, and the Homowo Planning Committee.
Homowo loosely translates to: ‘Shame on Hunger’ or ‘Hunger must sleep’ . It is a harvest festival and one of Africa’s most unique traditional experiences.
Observed by the GaDangme people of the Greater Accra Region of Ghana, it is a celebration of the discovery of grain, after a terrible period of famine.

Authentically African and proudly GaDangme, the Grand Homowo UK Festival is celebrated in the UK – for those who cannot travel to Ghana for the main event for various reasons. It began in 2010, drawing inspiration from previous sporadic attempts to host the event.
The event harnesses the diversity of the UK in an inclusive and family-friendly showcase of culture. Grand Homowo UK Festival unites Africa with the UK in the spirit of taking global action against hunger caused by poverty.
