The Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has slammed Speaker Alban Bagbin, accusing him of hurting Ghana’s democracy.

He claimed the Speaker is doing the bidding of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Addressing the press Thursday, November 7, 2024, Afenyo-Markin posited that the Speaker was not elected to do the bidding of the NDC, but it was because some people in the NPP saw something good in him that they voted for him.

“We, the majority caucus, call on Mr. Speaker one more time to demonstrate statesmanship. We want Mr. Speaker to know that although we were not happy on the day he was elected, some of our colleagues, perhaps, had seen something good in him.

“It wasn’t the NDC that put him there to do the bidding of the NDC. Perhaps people felt that he could be someone who could bring us all together,” he stated.

“There are things we cannot say into the camera, but Mr. Speaker is hurting democracy. What Mr. Speaker is doing is to rehearse what the NDC will do in case they lose power—to bring chaos and cause confusion,” he said.
