Presidential candidates and their various political parties, as well as independent candidates contesting the 2024 general elections, have signed a peace pact to ensure a peaceful electoral process.
The signing of the pact was signed on Thursday, November 28, 2024.
The candidates and their parties committed to maintaining peace before, during, and after the polls.
The Electoral Commission (EC) has urged all political parties to accept the results of the upcoming elections.
Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa, reiterated that the institution has put in place measures aimed at ensuring free, fair, transparent, and peaceful elections.
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), appealed to political parties, the media, and security agencies to preserve peace during and after the elections.
Candidate John Dramani Mahama, the former President, expressed concerns over the failure of our institutions to deal with past events, including the 2020 general elections and the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election violent incident.
Mr. Kofi Akpaloo, the candidate for the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), opined that we cannot have peace if the duopoly of the NPP and the NDC continues.
He complained of a biased system where the NDC and NPP are favoured even by the media with the other political parties ignored.
Hassan Ayariga of the All People’s Congress underscored the need for Ghana to sit up and demonstrate to the world that we are united.
He said we must all have a role in ensuring that this country remains peaceful before, during, and after the elections.
