John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) presidential candidate, has reiterated his commitment to working with traditional leaders to promote Ghanaian festivals.

The former president explained that this is part of a larger plan to boost local economies, promote cultural tourism, and highlight Ghana’s rich heritage on a global scale.

Mahama made these remarks while visiting Ga Mantse’s palace on Thursday, November 28.

His meeting with King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II and the Ga Traditional Council was part of his tour of the Greater Accra region as the December 7 general elections came to an end.

He shared a post on Facebook expressing his gratitude to the traditional ruler.

He wrote I received a truly royal welcome to the Ga Mantse’s palace on Thursday, where I met with the Ga Traditional Council as part of my #Mahama4Change2024 campaign in the Greater Accra Region.

Thank you, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, your chiefs, queen mothers, wulomei and opinion leaders.

The display of alluring tradition and culture and the insightful discussion with our traditional rulers reaffirmed the vital role that traditional authorities play in our society and the importance of fostering strong relationships with them.

During our discussions, I emphasised our commitment to partnering with chiefs and other traditional authorities to promote our rich heritage festivals. These festivals are more than just celebrations; they are opportunities to promote cultural tourism, boost local economies, and showcase our heritage to the world.

By working closely with traditional leaders, we can enhance the visibility and impact of our festivals and benefit our communities.

As indicated in our 2024 #ResettingGhana Manifesto, we will increase the representation of traditional authorities within our decentralised structures. Their insights and contributions are invaluable in shaping policies that reflect our people’s needs and aspirations.

I have always believed empowering traditional leaders to take a more active role in governance can create a more inclusive and effective system honouring our cultural roots.

I am committed to enhancing relations with our chiefs as we move forward. They are not only custodians of our traditions but also key stakeholders in our development agenda.

I am excited about the possibilities ahead as we collaborate with all traditional authorities nationwide to uplift our communities.’’
