Executive Director for Jatikay Centre for Humanity Security and Peace Building, Adib Saani has called on well-meaning Ghanaians, political parties, religious leaders, traditional authorities, and the international community to join the civil society organisations to demand accountability and transparency from the Electoral Commission (EC).
He said the EC has not demonstrated any commitment towards organising free, fair, and transparent elections come December 7, 2024.
He disclosed that at a press conference held by some CSOs that have been refused accreditation by the EC to observe the elections.
Addressing a press conference held by the various CSOs on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, he stated that the EC has still not provided any justification for refusing them accreditation to observe the elections.
To this end, he demanded that the electoral body organise an emergency meeting with all stakeholders to assess this matter.
He then appealed to political parties, Ghanaians, and other stakeholders to demand accountability from the EC in the upcoming elections.
The credibility of our elections and the stability of our nation, he argued, are at stake due to the unilateral, irresponsible, and unlawful decision by Madam Jean Mensa to deny them accreditation for the elections.
“Democracy is not a gift. It is a collective responsibility. The EC must remember that it serves the people of Ghana, not its chairperson. We will not relent in our efforts in ensuring that the upcoming elections reflect the will of the people.”
