Mavis Hawa Koomson, the incumbent Member of Parliament for the Awutu Senya East constituency, has stated that she will never again allow her opponent’s tricks to affect her chances of retaining the seat for the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
According to her, if her opponent slaps her in the current elections, she will not respond because that is the same approach that nearly cost her a seat in the 2020 elections.
Speaking to journalists, the MP stated that she has learnt several lessons from the past and will not respond to any form of violence from her opponents, but will do so after the elections are over.
Madam Hawa Koomson said, “2024, never again.” Even if I stand here and my opponent approaches to slap me, I will not mind. But once we’re done, I’ll retaliate. But for now, the answer is no. That’s why, when my son was stabbed, I refused to intervene, and people wondered if he was my son. I know what I’m in for, and I’m holding on to my seat. I will not make any mistakes that cause it to slip through my fingers. That was the trick played on me in 2020, and I wasn’t aware of it. But I am wiser and would not fall for that.
When asked, she said she did to keep her seat over the years. The MP declared that her good relationship with her constituents has kept her in parliament.
‘’It is all by the grace of God. My relationship with them (constituents). I am the mother of the constituency, the friend of the constituency, the leader of the constituency. So I’m not surprised they keep voting for me. I love them, and they also love me”.
